Little Cottonwood Canyon is open. Road surface: Dry. Weather: Fair. No traction restriction is posted for this corridor right now.
Data: UDOT Traffic | UDOT report Nov 4, 9:23 AM MT
Alta sits at the end of SR-210, at the top of the snowiest canyon road in Utah, and the drive is part of the ski area whether you plan for it or not. Eight miles, two lanes, Class 3 traction law, and avalanche paths overhead. On a storm morning, the Alta drive is the most managed drive in American skiing: UDOT avalanche forecasting, planned control closures, mouth enforcement, and a reopening estimate you can plan a morning around.
The practical rules are few and absolute. Your vehicle meets Class 3 or you do not go up on posted days, and the ski bus is a first class alternative, not a consolation. Control work closures usually run early and lift by mid morning; a natural slide closure is a different day, and the verdict on our Little Cottonwood page separates the two as UDOT reports them.
Parking at Alta is reservation based in peak season, which changes the arrival curve but not the road math. The canyon carries what it carries; check the live verdict, the traction line, and the top cameras before you leave the valley, and again at the mouth if the morning is changing fast.
