The Solitude area sits about two thirds up Big Cottonwood Canyon at roughly 8,100 feet: the resort village, the Nordic center, and the cabin neighborhoods along this reach of SR-190. Its forecast reads the upper canyon, which is the part of the drive that decides things. The lower canyon can be plowed and wet while this stretch is still taking snow on a shaded, freezing road.
