Solitude sits about two thirds up Big Cottonwood Canyon, and its drive is the upper canyon drive: the lower miles are the approach, the miles above Storm Mountain are the substance. Class 3 traction rules apply on posted days, enforced at the SR-190 mouth, and the roadside weather at the village runs colder than the mouth by enough to change the surface.
Solitude's village scale keeps its arrival peak smaller than Brighton's, but it shares the canyon's surge exposure on Little Cottonwood closure mornings, and its section of SR-190 is where that queue does its waiting. The Big Cottonwood verdict, with its events list, is the read that separates a surge morning from a normal one.
The Nordic center and the canyon's cabin communities share this reach of road in every season, which makes the corridor page a residents' page as much as a skiers' page. Live verdict first, then the cameras from the mouth up; the surface at the village rarely matches the surface at the bench, and the drive covers both.
